Military Veteran Peer NetworkAn Outreach for Veterans
Facilitating services for Veterans and their families and providing peer support to help our fellow Veterans get back on their feet.
About the MVPN Program
Military Veteran Peer Network is one of the largest community-based participatory research interventions taken for Veterans healthcare by the State of Texas. The program is exclusively for Texas, though other states have their own version. Created by the University of Texas, it is administered by the Texas Health and Human Services Division but managed by the Texas Veteran’s Commission’s Veterans Mental Health Program
The Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) is a program that is dedicated to establishing trust and camaraderie amongst members of the military through “peers.” Peers are individuals that may have suffered from the same illnesses that you may be dealing with, but they have since recovered and will be there for you to inspire hope and provide support during your journey. At VetStar, we are committed to providing you with the support you need to get you back on your feet and help you transition back into civilian life.
Each member of the MVPN program at VetStar is a certified specialist in Peer Support. Our members are focused on getting you the help you need. They are active listeners, always willing to lend an ear when you need someone to talk to, and they are respectful and non-judgmental of any circumstance you find yourself. We encourage growth and help you establish and achieve your goals.
Our MVPN Peers Exhibit All of These Qualities We Believe to Be Necessary to Support You
Our peers are PEOPLE-CENTERED, which means that they are focused on you as a person and treating you how you want to be treated.
Our peers are EFFECTIVE MENTORS. They are specialists who have gone through hours of rigorous training so that they can be the best they can be for you. They demonstrate integrity in all they do, encourage your growth, and help you set clear and achievable goals.
Our peers are FOCUSED. They are not only focused on helping you but they are also focused on positivity. They are focused on exhibiting equality, and they focused on recoginizing your struggle so that they can aid you in your journey to excellence.
